If you experience a direct injury to your mouth or teeth you should contact your regular dentist as soon as possible. Examples of emergencies in this category include lost, broken or chipped teeth and cuts.
The following problems can be remedied at home until you can be seen at our office, usually during regular clinic hours.
- Wire Irritating Your Mouth or Teeth: Cover it with orthodontic wax. Contact our office to schedule an appointment.
- Loose Band or Bracket: Remove from wire if possible. Please call our office to adjust your appointment, if necessary.
- A Broken Arch Wire: Please contact our office to schedule an appointment to either replace or adjust the wire.
- Lost Separator: Please call our office to advise the location of the lost separator. Depending upon the location, and space between the teeth, this may or may not require replacement.
- Sensitive Teeth: This is a common problem that can occur as adjustments are made during treatment. Most discomfort can be relieved by use of over the counter pain relievers. Please follow the dosage requirements closely.
- Lost or Broken Retainer: Since a retainer keeps the teeth in their correct position, replacement or repair of the retainer should be done as soon as possible. Please contact our office to schedule an appointment.
If you have an orthodontic emergency, please contact our office during normal business hours (Monday through Friday). If you have an after hours emergency that cannot be treated with any of the above recommendations, please contact our office and an emergency number will be provided.
