Sometimes genetics and environmental factors can combine to alter the proper alignment of your child’s permanent teeth. This can sometimes come in the form of a malocclusion or pronounced overbite. Not only could this leave your son or daughter with an unappealing smile it could also place their teeth at increased risk of suffering from dental fractures and tooth enamel attrition.

In many of these cases, Dr. Joseph Basile can use traditional braces to gradually correct the alignment of their teeth.

This orthodontic treatment involves installing small metal brackets, wires, and other orthodontic hardware elements. If your son or daughter is uncomfortable with the metallic appearance of traditional braces, Dr. Joseph Basile might be able to apply a porcelain glaze during the installation process.

You will need to bring your child back to Dr. Joseph Basile’s orthodontic clinic to periodically have their braces tightened and adjusted. Each of these regularly scheduled appointments will gradually move their teeth closer to their correct orientation.

Once the alignment of their teeth has been fully Dr. Joseph Basile can uninstall the braces and they will need to use a retainer to help ensure your teeth remain in a new position. This phase typically lasts the same amount of time it took to correct their smile.
