Do you wear braces? Then you’ve probably heard how important it is to take care of your smile. Do you know why? This is because while your braces were designed to align your smile and make it healthier, the crevices give bacteria and food great places to hide in the meantime. To help you properly clean your teeth, Dr. Joseph Basile and our dental team have some guidelines.
Make sure to brush your teeth at least twice a day. If you want to go the extra mile, you can even scrub your pearly whites after each meal. Please remember to use a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. We recommend using an interdental brush to clean hard-to-reach places in your braces apparatus. You can find them at any local drugstore or we can provide you with some.
You will also need to floss your teeth at least once a day. This can remove food particles from the crevices of your smile that your brush can’t reach. Use the floss threader we gave you. This tool can help make flossing with braces much easier.
Finally rinse your mouth with antibacterial mouthwash every day. This can help kill the remaining bacteria in your mouth that your toothbrush and floss didn’t reach.
